Tech Word:
Multimedia to Hypermedia
Multimedia means that multiple forms of information, such as text, audio, and video, are combined to deliver information. Today's movies are multimedia, combining pictures with sound to tell a story. Turn on subtitles and you add yet another medium to the experience, each reinforcing the others to make meaning clear.
Hypermedia adds another dimension in delivery style, incorporating a way for the user to choose how to explore a topic. Multimedia pieces are combined using "hyperlinks" (buttons or other controls) to allow movement among elements of the presentation. Hypermedia engages the user with a "sense of control" over his/her learning destiny.
