Tech Word:
1G, 2G, 3G

wireless computing

Mobile communication has been defined for decades by these terms that stand for first generation, second generation and third generation in wireless communications. First generation was prevalent in the 1970's through 1980's and featured analog voice signals. Second generation used digital voice encoding and improved over the years to include better speed and even multimedia features. The majority of cell phones currently in use today are 2G devices. 3G devices, recently introduced in mainstream mobile computing and cell phones, offer considerably faster speeds for information transfer, but more importantly, the potential to keep people connected wherever they may be on planet earth.
