Lesson Plan
Goals:
- Students will be able to locate four attractions or locations within Indiana that were discussed and relate to the text.
- Students will be able to locate information using the Internet.
- Students will be able to copy images from the Internet and paste them into a brochure document.
Lesson:
For a final 4th grade social studies inquiry project, students could choose to create a travel brochure about Indiana. Their brochure should advertise four attractions within Indiana with a short summary of each attraction, graphics, and a map showing the location of each attraction.
Each attraction should relate to the text. For example:
- Amish Acres - religions
- Feast of the Hunter's Moon - cultural events
- Indiana Dunes - landforms
From the new document menu of Clarisworks, click on "Use Assistant or Stationary". Choose the "All Stationary" category and find "brochure". The students can then manipulate the brochure template to create their own travel brochure.
Home Connections:
Students may search for information at home and bring it into school to use. Students can also plan a family vacation to one of the researched locations within Indiana. They can map out how long the trip would take, how many miles away the tourist attraction is, and what kinds of activities their family can do when they arrive.
