Go Green Activities
Technology integration goes green! Find activities, lessons, and projects that integrate environmental awareness, technology, literacy, and content standards. Each activity offers suggestions for implementation at K-2, 2-5 and 6-12 grade levels, as well as adaptations for use in different content areas.
Energy Monitor Activity
for Grades 2-5
Follow these suggestions for learning activities on how to conserve energy, both at home and school.
- Print off Energy Hog’s Scavenger Hunt and ask your parents to help you monitor your family’s energy habits. (Internet, Online tools/ NETS 1,4)
- Read through Energy Hog’s Official Handbook to learn about different areas of our homes that could be wasting energy. (Internet/ NETS 3)
- Find more ways to save energy and lower your family’s bills with these websites (Internet/ NETS 3, 4):
- Use Kidspiration™ or other webbing software to brainstorm a list of strategies your family could take to make your home more energy efficient. Try to make your goals as realistic as possible. (Webbing software/ NETS 1, 4)
- Finally, use a word processor to write an energy saving proposal for your family to consider. List each goal you have, along with reasons for each change. (Word processor/ NETS 1,4)
- Optional Assignment: Create a brochure using a word processor or publishing software with energy saving tips for families. (Word processor, Publishing software/ NETS 1,4)

This "Go Green" resource was developed by Buddy for an eco-education initiative, "Green Connections: Learning and Living." This initiative will run from February 1 through Earth Day on April 22, 2009.
