Green Connections - Learning & LivingBuddy organized an eco-education initiative, "Green Connections: Learning and Living." This initiative ran from February 1 through Earth Day on April 22, 2009.

About the Contest

In the spirit of "Living and Learning Green," the Buddy Project hosted a Recycled Art Competition. Indiana students (K-12) were invited to create a piece of wearable or useable art that espouses the principles of green living: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Prizes (Flip Video Ultra Series camera) were awarded for each age group*.

CATEGORIES

  • Wearable Art: Any item that may be worn as clothing or as an accessory.
  • Useable Art: Any item that may be used in daily life.

GUIDELINES

All entries met the following guidelines:

  1. Submissions must be school appropriate.
  2. Submissions must demonstrate green values (reduce, reuse, recycle, upcycle).
  3. Submissions must incorporate recycled items or use existing items in a new way.
  4. Students may only submit one piece.
  5. Classes may enter a collaborative project.
  6. Submissions may be based on projects that are available on-line or on someone else’s work, but full credit must be givenDownload PDF to the original artist.
  7. Submissions must have a completed and signed release formDownload PDF.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Submissions were judged according to the following criteria:

  • Percentage of recycled material used: submissions incorporate at least 25% recycled materials
  • Creative use of materials
  • Practicality / Durability: submissions are practical and durable
  • Coolness Factor / Aesthetics: submissions are unique, interesting, and / or visually pleasing / stimulating

* Four Flip Video Ultra Series (60 min. capacity) cameras will be awarded to the winners of each age group.

** All submissions of photographs of art pieces that have followed the guidelines and submission criteria are showcased on the Buddy Website and published. Contest participants agreed to let Buddy use their work to promote technology integration and green education in Indiana.
