Are You Ready To Ca$h In Some Of Your Old Technology?

An exciting new website, BuyMyTronics.com, is now offering consumers the opportunity to sell their unwanted technology, whether it be new, old, or broken. They pay cash for the types of electronic items that most of us have buried in the back of closets and junk drawers…items like cell phones, digital cameras, PDA’s, iPods, laptops, camcorders, and video game players. It couldn’t be easier! Just visit the website and follow the simple directions, and they’ll send you a check. Or, email them with your questions. They seem to do a very good job of responding right away.

Your classroom or school could even have a “Technology Drive,” and request that parents send in their old or unwanted technology to be sold to buy new materials, supplies, or technology for use in the classroom. It might be a good idea to develop a “Consent Form” for the parent to sign, so Little Johnny doesn’t dig out mom’s cell phone from her purse and bring it to school….

Apple also has a recycling program to encourage consumers to be environmentally friendly. If you purchase an Apple computer and monitor, they will recycle your old computer and monitor, regardless of the manufacturer, for free. Just package up your old stuff, slap on the mailing label that Apple will send you, and let the package delivery people do the rest!

Recycling is an important part of being a conscious citizen on our planet today. And modeling good stewardship can teach a valuable lesson for our students. These two sites, as well as others, offer alternatives to dumping old or unwanted technologies in the landfills. So, check out their websites for more details, information, and restrictions, and perhaps put a little ca$h in your pocket or in your classroom at the same time.
