Rome City Middle School

Rome City Middle School was selected to join the STAR Universal Project in the spring of 2001. Their participation seemed to be a natural extension of Rome City's Elementary School involvement with the Buddy Project in previous years. As a STAR Universal Writers site, teachers receive extensive professional development in data driven decision making and writing. In addition the staff is immersed in the All Write!!! Program which engages teachers and students in memorable writing activities, fosters an environment for an educator network, provides tools and support to make the writing process happen, and helps the community by giving students real-world skills that they’ll need to become contributing, communicating adults (http://www.dekkofoundation.org/all_write.htm).

Rome City also trained a small group of middle school students as their Webtech Team. These students are active in supporting the technology goals of the school by offering hardware troubleshooting to the staff, providing software instruction, and developing and overseeing the school website. These students do amazing things and provide a model for other schools to emulate.
