In just a short time, the Indiana General Assembly will examine how learning delivered through computers and technology could play an important role in the education of Indiana students.
HB 1246 established a new educational committee to review and make recommendations to the General Assembly and others on the availability of virtual learning for K-12 students in Indiana; how virtual learning is being provided by other states; and a look at standards of quality and alignment for virtual learning with the Indiana Content Standards.
As of October 2007, 42 states offer some form of on-line or virtual learning; 30 of those states offer the courses through their state's department of education or other state agency.
The summer study committee hearings will be announced in late June or July. To follow the work of this committee, visit the website of the Indiana General Assembly
